Note on RASPBERRIES
It's that time of year again:
There is some evidence of Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) in our fields. SWD is an Asian fruit fly that came to the United States in 2008. Raspberries are especially susceptible. The pest softens the fruit. It's also why there are so few PYO Raspberry farms anymore.
There is no human health risk.
We have been spraying an organic insecticide made with rosemary oil and lavender oil - and while it helps, it is not perfect.
We will not be offering refunds.
As monoculture takes over our agricultural system, we thought it time to diversify the chicken farm with produce. I mean, we had plenty of manure, right?
We also feed our plants with crazy amendments like Sea Crop (sea minerals), liquid squid and liquid fish. And we've been working a natural defense strategy (experimental traps, fields "clean" of overripe fruit and judicious application of an organic minty insecticide) against fruit flies.
All this has made for a gorgeous crop!
Happy Picking!
